a beautiful last day of the season on hood today
As you may have heard, we received nearly five feet of snow in as many days last week. After a relatively dry January, this storm was more than welcome. Matt Zaffino looked downright giddy Monday night as he listed his predictions for the week, including that he expected a lot of folks out with the “foot new flu”.
By Thursday night, the skies had cleared, promising sunshine for Friday morning. Now, I’m as hardworking as the next guy, but we all need a sanity break from time to time, so I blew off the morning and headed up to the mountain. Luckily for those of us that did so, the upper lifts hadn’t been opened yet during this storm. Heather Canyon was open nearly to the top (second pic), and full of fresh snow. A great day, even if the wind-packed snow proved challenging to my still-developing skills.
The first picture was shot from the Heather chair, after descending all the way from the lip of A-Zone to the base of Heather. A great run, with a few monster faceplants thrown in just to humble me.
